On the morning of September 25, 2025, in Hanoi, the Agency for Innovation, Green Transition and Industry Promotion (IGIP) under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) organized a training program titled “Motor System Optimization.”
This activity was conducted within the framework of the project “Accelerating energy efficiency in large industries through energy management systems, system optimisation and the promotion and adoption of energy efficiency in small and medium-sized enterprises” (IEEP Project), funded by the European Union (EU), implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and with the MOIT as the executing agency.

Mrs. Nguyễn Thị Lâm Giang, Director General of the Agency for Innovation, Green Transition and Industry Promotion, MOIT
Speaking at the training program, Mrs. Nguyễn Thị Lâm Giang, Director General of the Agency for Innovation, Green Transition and Industry Promotion, emphasized that this event was not merely a training activity but a strategic step toward advancing Viet Nam’s green transition, enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnamese enterprises in both regional and global markets.
She noted that in the context of international integration, enterprises are facing increasing demands related to social responsibility and environmental protection. Mrs. Lâm Giang expressed her hope that the knowledge and skills provided through this two-day course would help industrial enterprises improve their energy efficiency, thereby contributing to the country’s sustainable development goals.
With the participation of numerous trainees from industrial enterprises, technology universities, centers for industrial promotion and energy efficiency, and energy consulting firms across the northern and central provinces, Mrs. Nguyễn Thị Ngọc Lan, IEEP Project Manager, shared:
“The objective of this two-day training course is to equip energy consultants and technical staff of industrial enterprises with the knowledge and tools necessary to conduct system assessments and to identify and implement motor system optimization solutions. Additionally, for energy consultants, the course aims to build a network of experts equipped with the knowledge, skills, and tools needed to provide technical support to enterprises and to train their staff in identifying and implementing motor system optimization projects.”

Mr. Siraj Williams, UNIDO Senior International Expert
The two-day training attracted nearly 60 technical and energy management officers from large industrial enterprises in target sectors of the project, including rubber processing, chemicals and fertilizers, metallurgy and steel, plastics, textiles, food processing, and seafood processing, as well as energy consultants from Hanoi, Hung Yen, Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho, Bac Ninh, Hai Phong, Ha Nam, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Da Nang, and Hue.
The course content was developed based on UNIDO’s Training Development Framework, covering topics such as:
- Overview of motor systems
- Principles of electric motor operation and efficiency
- Components of drive systems
- Motor performance analysis
- Introduction to motor system assessment tools
- Identification of optimization solutions
The course was delivered by Mr. Siraj Williams, UNIDO Senior International Expert from South Africa.

Trainees in Discussion
After completing the training, participants are expected to be able to conduct comprehensive motor system assessments, including:
- Defining objectives, scope, and assessment strategies;
- Measuring system performance and operational data;
- Establishing baselines;
- Identifying and analyzing improvement opportunities;
- Performing data analysis, quantifying performance improvement potential, and conducting financial analyses;
- Preparing optimization reports that summarize findings, recommendations, data analysis, and calculation methodologies.

Participants in the Training Course
The IEEP Project will continue to organize training courses on energy efficiency and conservation in various provinces across the country. The next training course on “Financial Analysis of Energy Efficiency Investment Projects” will be held in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in early October 2025.
