Capacity building for large industrial emitters towards Net-zero emissions

On January 21, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Ministry of Industry and Trade held a technical dialogue which aims to finalize guidelines for greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory, mitigation, and monitoring plan development for large industrial emitters in the beer and beverage sector. The event was organized through the Viet Nam – EU Sustainable Energy Transition Programme (SETP).

The dialogue provided provincial authorities and businesses with training on the effective implementation of GHG reduction activities required by both domestic policies and international market demands.

According to Mr. Hoang Van Tam, Head of the Climate Change and Green Growth Group, as Viet Nam commits to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, developing GHG inventories and mitigation plans is mandatory. These efforts help businesses comply with international regulations, such as the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).

Held both in-person and virtually, the event drew representatives from the Departments of Industry and Trade from those provinces having large operation of beer and beverage enterprises, along with industry stakeholders.

At the event, the participants received practical training on conducting GHG inventories, using tools for emissions calculation, and developing mitigation and monitoring plans. This hands-on approach aimed to enhance their capacity to implement these guidelines effectively.

Moving forward, the MOIT will continue refining relevant policies and regulations and will conduct capacity-building initiatives to support businesses in reducing GHG emissions. These efforts aim to help sectoral businesses meet international market requirements and contribute to Viet Nam’s net-zero commitments.
