EU joins the energy efficiency race in response to the 2025 Earth Hour campaign

Ha Noi, March 8, 2025 – The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) organized a public event to kick off the nationwide electricity-saving campaign and the Race for Energy Efficiency (R4EE), which is co-financed by the EU. The event saw the participation of Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long, Kristina Bünde, Head of Cooperation of the EU Delegation to Viet Nam, representatives from domestic and international organizations and businesses, and nearly 2,000 runners.

In her speech, Ms. Kristina Bünde reaffirmed that the EU and Vietnam share common interests in the green and circular transition, with sustainable energy transition being a key area of bilateral cooperation. She emphasised: “Energy savings, energy efficiency measures and development of available renewable energy sources are increasingly recognised as a means to achieve a sustainable energy supply, reduce the need for new capacity and reduce the need for use of fossil fuel.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoàng Long highlighted that the R4EE, organized in response to the 2025 Earth Hour Campaign, strongly promotes the message: “Green transition – Green future.

Through this race, MOIT aims to foster a movement with a lasting and widespread impact. Beyond encouraging electricity saving, the initiative aspires to broader goals, such as advancing sustainable energy production, increasing the use of renewable energy, adopting high-efficiency products and equipment, and improving energy efficiency from both economic and environmental perspectives. Small individual actions, when combined, can create a powerful wave toward a greener, more sustainable future.

Additionally, a nationwide virtual race will be hosted via the 84RACE application from March 8 to March 31, 2025. This event is expected to draw tens of thousands of professional and amateur runners from across the country.
