Ministry of Industry and Trade Organizes Training Programme on “Motor System Optimization”

On the morning of September 30, 2025, in Ho Chi Minh City, 17 energy consulting experts and 45 industrial enterprise representatives from localities such as Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh, Dong Thap, and Can Tho participated in the training programme on “Motor System Optimization” organized by the Agency for  Innovation, Green Transition and Industry Promotion under the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT).

This training course is part of the project “Accelerating energy efficiency in large industries through energy management systems, system optimisation and the promotion and adoption of energy efficiency in small and medium-sized enterprises” (IEEP Project), funded by the European Union (EU). The Ministry of Industry and Trade serves as the implementing agency, while the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) acts as the executing partner.

Ms. Trần Thị Thùy Linh, Representative of the Agency for Innovation, Green Transition and Industry Promotion (IGIP), MOIT

In her opening remarks, Ms. Trần Thị Thùy Linh, representing the Department of Innovation, Green Transition and Industrial Promotion, delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the Ministry of Industry and Trade. She warmly welcomed participants from industrial enterprises, technological universities, industrial promotion and energy efficiency centers, and energy consulting firms across southern provinces and cities. Ms. Linh stated:

“In recent years, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has actively implemented a wide range of training and capacity-building programmes for organizations and individuals working in the field of energy efficiency, as well as for industrial enterprises and equipment suppliers. These initiatives lay the foundation for a nationwide network of collaboration and mutual support, enabling stakeholders to maximize resources and accelerate the adoption of new technologies for energy saving and emission reduction.”

Mr. Siraj Williams, Senior International Expert, UNIDO

According to Mr. Siraj Williams, Senior International Expert of UNIDO and trainer of the course, the curriculum was developed based on UNIDO’s Training Development Framework. The programme covered key topics including: an overview of motor systems; principles of operation and efficiency of electric motors; components of drive systems; performance analysis of motors; introduction to motor system assessment tools; and identification of optimization opportunities.

Upon completion of the training, participants are expected to be able to conduct comprehensive motor system assessments, including: defining objectives, scope, and strategies for assessment; measuring system performance and operational data; establishing baselines; identifying and analyzing improvement opportunities; quantifying performance improvement potential; conducting financial analyses; and identifying specific efficiency enhancement opportunities. They will also be able to prepare optimization reports that include preliminary recommendations, data analysis summaries, and detailed calculation methodologies.

The IEEP Project will continue to deliver training courses on energy efficiency and conservation across various provinces and cities nationwide. These courses are designed for enterprises in key industrial sectors such as rubber processing, chemicals and fertilizers, metallurgy and steel, plastics, textiles and garments, food processing, seafood processing, and for energy consulting professionals from consulting firms, among others. The next training course on “Financial Analysis of Energy Efficiency Investment Projects” will be organized in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in early October 2025.
