From 3 to 6 August 2026, the Agency for Innovation, Green Transition and Industrial Promotion under the Ministry of Industry and Trade organised the “Cooling and Refrigeration System Optimisation Training Programme” in Ha Noi.
The programme was conducted within the framework of the “Accelerating energy efficiency in large industries through energy management systems, system optimisation and the promotion and adoption of energy efficiency in small and medium-sized enterprises (IEEP) Project. The IEEP Project is funded by the European Union, with the Ministry of Industry and Trade as the governing agency, and implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

Speaking at the opening session, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Lan, Project Manager, said: “This training course aims to equip participants with in-depth knowledge to conduct energy efficiency assessments of industrial cooling and refrigeration systems and to implement system improvements and optimisation. The programme is not merely a knowledge training activity; it also provides participants with hands-on skills in measurement, information collection, system assessment and consulting for enterprises. This is considered a strategic step, contributing to the green transition and enhancing the competitiveness of Vietnamese enterprises in the region and around the world.”

Participants in the training course were energy efficiency consultants currently working at industrial promotion and industrial development consultancy centres, technology application and standards-metrology-quality centres, energy consulting companies and several relevant universities in Ha Noi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Thap and Can Tho. The course was delivered by international and Vietnamese experts.

In addition to two days of in-class theory with the trainers, participants had the opportunity to practise at a factory in Tu Liem Industrial Cluster, Ha Noi. There, they were introduced to equipment such as temperature, pressure and flow meters, as well as the parameters of a typical cooling and refrigeration system. They were also equipped with skills to measure and collect the necessary information on cooling and refrigeration systems in factories.

The combination of theory and practice helps participants identify opportunities for improvement and optimisation of cooling and refrigeration systems, detect cases of wasteful or inappropriate use, consider improvement solutions and assess optimisation options for relevant systems at the factory.
This was the second training course on the theme of “Cooling and Refrigeration System Optimisation” implemented by the IEEP Project. The first training course, held in May 2026, introduced a system approach, helping participants gain an overall view from chillers, pumps and cooling towers to loads. It also enabled them to practise using tools such as CRST and CWSAT to assess performance and identify and quantify energy-saving potential.
After fully participating in the course, participants will practise supporting an industrial production facility before taking an assessment test to receive a certificate of completion.
