Over 20,000 Runners Join the EU-Supported Virtual Run for Earth Hour 2026

As of 11 April 2026, more than 20,000 people had registered for the Earth Hour 2026 Virtual Run on the 84Race platform marking the highest participation level recorded for the initiative to date. The strong turnout reflects growing public interest in energy efficiency and sustainable living in Viet Nam.

The virtual run is a key activity under the national campaign “All people practice energy saving and efficiency and respond to Earth Hour 2026”, implemented by the Ministry of Industry and Trade within the framework of the Viet Nam National Energy Efficiency Programme (VNEEP) for the 2019–2030 period. With its flexible online format, the event enables wide participation from public officials, workers in the industry, and the general public, contributing to raising awareness and encouraging behavioural change towards more sustainable energy use.

The European Union (EU) has supported Viet Nam’s Earth Hour campaign for four consecutive years from 2023 to 2026, through the EU-Viet Nam Sustainable Energy Transition Programme (SETP) of which the EU-Viet Nam Sustainable Energy Transition Facility (EVSET) is a part. This continued collaboration demonstrates the EU’s commitment to accompanying Viet Nam in achieving its long-term climate and energy goals.

The 2026 Virtual Run also offers an added incentive: participants who complete at least 50 kilometres during the event will receive an official certificate from the organisers in recognition of their contribution to the campaign.

By combining community participation, digital innovation and international cooperation, the Earth Hour 2026 Virtual Run is helping to build momentum for greater energy efficiency awareness and a more sustainable future in Viet Nam.
