Hanoi, 13 June 2025 – A training of trainers (ToT) programme on entrepreneurship in energy efficiency kicked off on 9 June, under the Accelerating Innovative Startups for Energy Efficiency (AIS4EE) project. The training programme aims to build local capacity and strengthen the country’s entrepreneurship ecosystem, with particular relevance to energy-intensive sectors: industry, transport, and buildings.
The AIS4EE project is hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) and implemented by the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) with funding from the European Union (EU) within the framework of the EU–Viet Nam Sustainable Energy Transition Programme.
Opening the training on June 9 in Ha Noi, Mr. Quach Quang Dong, Deputy Director General of the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion, MOIT, emphasised the programme’s potential to lay a strong foundation for developing a professional network and community of expert lecturers and training institutions in energy efficiency in Viet Nam.

The 10-day training programme brings together 30 lecturers and experts from leading universities, innovation hubs and relevant training institutions across Viet Nam. The programme, organised in collaboration with Saigon Innovation Hub (SIHUB), RCEE-NIRAS, and Leipzig University’s SEPT Competence Centre, provides participants with the knowledge, tools, and teaching approaches needed to support early-stage entrepreneurs and the mainstreaming of energy efficiency innovation in training and academic institutions.

Enhancing efficiency across industries, buildings, and transportation is not just a technical requirement, it is imperative for advancing decarbonisation efforts, noted Mr. Gonzalo Serrano, Deputy Head of Cooperation of the European Union Delegation to Viet Nam.
Often referred to as the “first fuel” of the clean energy and net-zero transition, energy efficiency is notably driven by the development of local capacity and a supportive ecosystem to scale early solutions, accelerate adoption, and sustain long-term impact.
Welcoming the participants to the training, Ms. Maria Cecilia Paña, Deputy Country Representative of GGGI Viet Nam, expressed hope that the programme would inspire and empower the next generation of entrepreneurs to turn bold ideas into impactful, real-world energy efficiency solutions.
Held from 9 to 13 June in Hanoi, the week-long sessions focus on practical applications of energy efficiency in key sectors; entrepreneurship approaches; and tools for market validation and customer engagement. The second part of the training programme, a follow-up exchange in Europe will offer selected participants exposure to advanced innovation ecosystems, research and development (R&D) models, and startup support mechanisms in energy efficiency.

*Note: The European Union (EU) and the Government of Viet Nam are working together on a sustainable energy transition in Viet Nam. For this purpose, the EU and the Government of Viet Nam adopted the EU – Viet Nam Sustainable Energy Transition Programme (SETP) on 31 December 2021. This joint programme re-affirms the EU’s close cooperation and long-term commitment to Viet Nam’s goal of sustainable energy transition towards net-zero by 2050.
The SETP, with an EU grant of EUR 142 million, will be implemented from 2022 to 2027. It follows the success of the EU – Viet Nam Energy Sector Policy Support Programme, a EUR 108 million grant by the EU for Viet Nam implemented from 2018 to 2021.
