On 20 August 2026, the Ministry of Industry and Trade opened a two-day training course on pump system optimisation for management and technical personnel from industrial enterprises in Hanoi.
The course was designed to equip participants with foundational knowledge and practical tools to analyse, design, and operate pump systems optimally, thereby helping businesses identify energy-saving opportunities and improve operational efficiency.
This training forms part of the project “Accelerating energy efficiency in large industries through energy management systems and system optimisation and the promotion and adoption of energy efficiency in small and medium-sized enterprises” (IEEP). The IEEP Project is funded by the European Union, managed by Viet Nam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), and implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
Ms. Nguyen Thi Lam Giang, Director General of the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation, and Industrial Promotion, delivers the opening remarks at the training course.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lam Giang, Director General of the Department of Innovation, Green Transformation and Industrial Promotion (MOIT), emphasised that the training content is based on international energy management standards and methodologies, tailored to Viet Nam’s practical context. The curriculum combines theory and practice through group exercises and real-world case studies, enabling participants to return to their enterprises with a concrete action plan after completing the course.
“The Ministry of Industry and Trade continuously conducts monthly training programmes to enhance knowledge on energy management systems and system optimisation for target groups, including consulting organisations, individuals, and industrial enterprises. This serves as a foundation to build a nationwide network of mutual support to leverage resources effectively, driving the adoption of new technological solutions toward energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction targets,” Ms. Giang added.
Energy-intensive enterprises from 11 provinces and cities: Lao Cai, Bac Ninh, Hanoi, Hung Yen, Hai Phong, Thai Nguyen, Phu Tho, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa, Gia Lai and Ho Chi Minh City sent representatives to the training course. These participants represented major industrial sectors, such as food processing, textiles, paper manufacturing, cement, beverages, rubber, steel and metallurgy.
Mr. Harry Rosen, an international expert with over 30 years of hands-on experience in the pump industry, led the course as the instructor.

Throughout the course, the participants actively exchanged ideas and discussed practical challenges faced by their respective units with the expert, thereby mastering energy assessment methodologies and standards, particularly the use of assessment tools, to effectively apply them to the management and optimisation of pump systems at their plants.
The course equips participants with foundational knowledge and practical tools to help enterprises identify energy-saving opportunities and improve pump system operations.
In recent years, the MOIT-led National Program on Energy Efficiency and Conservation has been implemented across many provinces and cities nationwide. This initiative has contributed to raising awareness, strengthening capacity, and encouraging the adoption of energy-efficient solutions across various sectors. The programme demonstrates that energy efficiency is not only a solution to national energy security but also brings direct benefits to enterprises by reducing production costs, improving energy efficiency, boosting productivity and enhancing competitiveness.
