On 22-23 July 2026 in Ho Chi Minh City, the “Training Programme on Improving Operations and Implementing Energy Efficiency for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs)” was organised, attracting more than 60 participants, including business owners, managers and technical staff from many provinces and cities and from key industrial sectors.
The training was part of the “Accelerating energy efficiency in large industries through energy management systems, system optimisation and the promotion and adoption of energy efficiency in small and medium-sized enterprises (IEEP) Project, funded by the European Union, under the governance of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). The project aims to enhance capacity for efficient energy use and increase the competitiveness of Vietnamese enterprises in the context of the green transition.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Lan, IEEP Project Manager, emphasised the urgency of the current context, as energy security and emission reduction requirements are becoming major pressures on enterprises. She said: “Energy that is not used efficiently and in a coordinated manner risks leading to localised energy shortages, pushing up production costs, and reducing the competitiveness of Vietnamese goods in international markets.” She also noted that major export markets such as the EU, the United States and Japan are increasingly tightening green standards, requiring enterprises, especially SMEs, to adapt quickly if they do not want to be excluded from global supply chains.
Trainers share practical solutions to optimise energy use in enterprises.
The training programme was designed with a practical approach, combining theory with in-depth content on energy efficiency, including energy planning, data analysis, operational control and system inspection. In addition, the course explored key technical topics such as boilers and hot-water boilers, air compressors and pumping systems, refrigeration systems, lighting and HVAC, helping participants understand and gradually apply solutions to improve energy efficiency in their enterprises.

The course brought together more than 60 participants, including business owners, managers and technical staff from domestic manufacturing SMEs across sectors such as rubber, food processing, seafood processing, textiles and garments, beverages, paper and pulp, chemicals and fertilisers, metals and steel, plastics and cement. Participating enterprises came from Ho Chi Minh City and many other provinces and cities, including Dong Nai, Ca Mau, Dong Thap, Lam Dong, An Giang, Tay Ninh, Vinh Long and Da Nang, creating a diverse forum for exchanging practical experience in production and energy use.

Through the training, enterprises were not only equipped with the necessary knowledge and tools to improve energy efficiency, but also had opportunities to connect, share experience and gradually develop roadmaps for optimising operations and using energy efficiently in production. This is considered one of the practical activities contributing to support the SME community in strengthening energy management capacity and improving operational efficiency in the context of growing attention to economical and sustainable energy use.
