MOIT Deputy Minister Meets with the EU Delegation’s Chargé d’Affaires in Viet Nam

On the afternoon of October 7, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), Deputy Minister Nguyễn Hoàng Long received Mr. Rafael De Bustamante, Chargé d’Affaires of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Viet Nam.

Attending the meeting were representatives from the MOIT’s Departments of Foreign Market Development, Agency for Innovation, Green Transition, and Industry Promotion, and the Electricity Authority of Vietnam.

During the meeting, both sides discussed coordination for the preparation of the high-level delegation’s participation in the 2nd Global Gateway Forum (GGF) 2025 in Belgium, as well as directions to accelerate the implementation of projects under the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) framework in Viet Nam.

The GGF 2025 will focus on promoting global connectivity amid geopolitical and economic challenges. The Forum will bring together high-level government leaders, financial institutions, and major corporations to discuss strategies and initiatives aimed at scaling up investment under the Global Gateway Initiative in EU partner countries.

Deputy Minister Nguyễn Hoàng Long emphasized that the Ministry of Industry and Trade attaches great importance to its cooperation with the EU in the fields of economy, trade, and energy—particularly in initiatives supporting green and energy transitions.

He noted that these are EU’s strengths and align with Viet Nam’s current and future socio-economic development objectives. The EU Chargé d’Affaires expressed the EU’s readiness to work closely with the Ministry in preparing for the event and promoting priority cooperation areas.

Both sides agreed to maintain regular communication and continue close coordination to ensure the effective implementation of upcoming joint cooperation activities.

The Global Gateway Strategy has been one of the key pillars of the EU’s external policy since its launch in December 2021. It focuses on supporting partner and developing countries in areas such as digital transformation, climate and energy (particularly investment in the green energy transition), transport, health, education, and research.

In Viet Nam, the EU is currently advancing the implementation of JETP through two lighthouse projects: the Bắc Ái Pumped Storage Hydropower Plant (1,200 MW) and the Trà Vinh Nearshore Wind Farm (48 MW).
