Vietnam conserved 448,000 kWh of electricity – equivalent to approximately 942.2 million VND (36,800 USD) – during Earth Hour 2025, held from 8:30 to 9:30 PM on March 22, according to the National Power System and Market Operation Company (NSMO).
Earth Hour is a global environmental movement promoting energy efficiency and climate action. First launched in Sydney, Australia, in 2007 with over 2 million participants, the campaign has since grown to engage billions across nearly 200 countries and territories.

In Vietnam, Earth Hour is jointly organized by WWF Vietnam and the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), drawing participation from all 63 provinces and cities. The year 2025 marks Vietnam’s 17th consecutive year of involvement, reflecting a growing public awareness of energy efficiency.
Building on past successes, MOIT has introduced the “National Energy-Saving Movement for Earth Hour 2025” under the theme “Green Transition – Green Future.” This initiative extends beyond electricity saving, promoting sustainable energy production, renewable energy adoption, and energy-efficient technologies to drive both economic and environmental benefits.
As part of the 2025 Earth Hour Campaign, MOIT is rolling out various activities throughout March to support the initiative. These include a hybrid (virtual and onsite) running race which is co-finance by the EU, the “Understanding Energy Saving” online competition, the “Energy-Saving Ambassador” contest, the “Journalism Awards for Promoting Energy Efficiency,” the “Legal Knowledge on Energy Efficiency” competition, and more.
These events play a vital role in amplifying the campaign’s message, “Green Transition – Green Future,” fostering greater public awareness, and encouraging positive behavioral changes toward energy efficiency and environmental protection.
