On 10 September 2026, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) opened a two-day training course on process heating system optimisation for experts, managers, and technical staff from industrial enterprises in Hanoi.
The training course is part of the “Accelerating energy efficiency in large industries through energy management systems, system optimization and the promotion and adoption of energy efficiency in small and medium-sized enterprises” project (IEEP). The IEEP project is funded by the European Union, managed by Viet Nam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade and implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

In his opening remarks, Mr. Hoang Viet Dung, Deputy Head of the Energy Efficiency and Green Transition Division, Agency for Innovation, Green Transition and Industry Promotion, Ministry of Industry and Trade, said: “The training course aims to equip consultants and technical staff from industrial enterprises with the knowledge and tools needed to assess process heating systems, as well as identify, develop and implement solutions to optimise these systems. For consulting experts, it also aims to build a pool of qualified specialists with the necessary knowledge, skills and tools to provide technical support to enterprises and train local staff on optimisation projects.”
Mr. Dung also emphasised that joint training initiatives between the Ministry of Industry and Trade and partner organisations, including the IEEP project, has provided a foundation for a nationwide support network. This collaborative effort will help maximise available resources and promote the adoption of new technological solutions to improve energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
International energy consultant, Mr. Veerasamy Venkatesan, who brings more than 42 years of experience in industrial energy system optimisation across over 22 countries, delivered the course. He has provided consulting services to a number of multinational corporations and industrial plants across various sectors, including steel, cement, chemicals, oil refining, paper, textiles, fertilisers and plastics.

Representatives from universities, research institutes, trade and science promotion centers and energy-intensive industrial enterprises attended the course. The industrial participants spanned sectors such as paper, cement, beverages, rubber, chemicals, steel and metallurgy across Hanoi, Hai Phong, Bac Ninh, Hung Yen, Phu Tho, Thanh Hoa, and Da Nang.
Participants are equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to assess process heating systems, as well as identify, develop, and implement solutions or projects to optimize process heating systems.
This is the first training course on process heating under the IEEP project. A similar course will be held on 15 – 16 September 2026 in Ho Chi Minh City while Module 2, which is designed specifically for national experts in this field, is expected to take place in November this year.
