VNUF Advances Solid Biofuels Training under EU-supported Capacity Building Initiative

On 17-18 April 2026, the Viet Nam National University of Forestry (VNUF) hosted a “Briefing of Trainers” workshop for an initiative it is implementing with support from the EU–Viet Nam Sustainable Energy Transition Facility (EVSET). The support was provided through EVSET’s technical assistance component for entities outside the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT). The EVSET Facility is part of the wider EU–Viet Nam Sustainable Energy Transition Programme (SETP), which aims to support Viet Nam’s transition toward more sustainable energy systems.

The workshop is one of the key activities of the initiative titled “Capacity Development and Building for Solid Biofuels Value Chain Key Actors in Viet Nam.” The initiative aims to strengthen both human and institutional capacity in the solid biofuels sector by equipping universities with the knowledge and tools needed to deliver high-quality training. Through this effort, VNUF and partner universities are working to develop a practical and integrated training programme that responds to the needs of the bioenergy sector.

The “Briefing of Trainers” workshop focuses on strengthening capacity on delivering international best practice solid biofuels training in Vietnam across a number of universities and deepening future collaboration between them. The training is designed not only to provide technical knowledge, but also to help participants understand how to effectively deliver this content to students and future professionals.

During the workshop, participants will:

  • Gain a clear understanding of the solid biofuels value chain
  • Learn the core training topics
  • Explore practical methods for teaching and applying the materials in their institutions

The workshop also marks an important step in building a network of trainers across partner universities, supporting future collaboration and expansion of training activities in this field.

Viet Nam has strong potential to develop solid biofuels, especially by making better use of forestry residues and agricultural by-products. Strengthening training capacity will help develop a skilled workforce and contribute to the country’s sustainable energy transition.
Through this programme, trainers are expected to play an important role in sharing knowledge and supporting the growth of the bioenergy sector in Viet Nam.
