Representatives of the European- American Market Department; Electricity and Renewable Energy Authority; Oil, Gas and Coal Department; Electricity Regulatory Authority of Vietnam, Department of Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development, and Institute of Energy participated in the meeting.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long affirmed that, based on the EU – Viet Nam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the close ties between Viet Nam and EU’s Member States, the relationship between Viet Nam and the EU has been constantly strengthened.
The EU is one of Viet Nam’s leading economic and major development partners. With the expertise, technical, and financial support of the EU, several projects in agriculture, energy, climate change response, etc. have been implemented, actively contributing to Viet Nam’s sustainable growth.
Mr. Long thanked the support of European countries in particular and the EU in general for Viet Nam in enhancing its ability to respond to climate change, notably the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP). This is a cooperation mechanism between the G7 and its partners, including 5 EU members, and Viet Nam.
The EU group, with the participation of Member States such as France, Germany, Italy, and Denmark, alongside European financial institutions, cooperates to support 15.5 billion Euro to help Viet Nam achieve its net-zero emissions target by 2050, gradually transitioning fossil fuels to renewable energy sources and energy efficiency improvements.
The MOIT’s Deputy Minister hoped that in the coming time, the EU would continue to accompany Viet Nam in the journey of green transition, digital transformation, climate change adaptation, innovation, and start-ups.
The EU Ambassador to Viet Nam Julien Guerrier thanked the MOIT’s leaders for warmly welcoming the Delegation and affirmed that EVFTA, effective in August 2020, has contributed to creating more leverage and furthering the EU-Viet Nam cooperation relationship more deeply and effectively.
Ambassador Julien Guerrier emphasized that Viet Nam is one of the EU’s main partners in Southeast Asia with the largest number of agreements. EU’s Member States would continue to invest and share development experiences with Viet Nam. He also hoped that Viet Nam would support and connect with European countries to achieve a leapfrog in cooperation.
