HANOI – November 15, 2023. The Management Unit of Energy Efficiency Technical Assistance Projects (the Project Management Unit) – Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT) coordinates with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to organize the kick-off workshop for the project “Accelerating energy efficiency in large industries through energy management systems, system optimisation and the promotion and adoption of energy efficiency in small and medium-sized enterprises” (IEEP).
IEEP is a complementary support project of the EU-Vietnam Sustainable Energy Transition Programme (SETP) funded by the European Union (EU), implemented by UNIDO and the Department of Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development. (DEESD) – MOIT in five years (from 2023 to 2027).
The overall objective of the project is to promote and stimulate market demand and increase the adoption of energy efficiency practices by industry for greater energy performance, reduced carbon footprint, and enhanced productivity and competitiveness of industries in Vietnam.
The project comprises of 3 main components: Strengthening the institutional and policy framework; Providing capacity building programmes; Implementing energy management systems and system optimisation projects, targeting 10 industries, namely paper and pulp, food processing, seafood processing, textiles and garment, chemicals and fertilisers production, rubber, metallurgy and steel, cement, plastics and beverages.
Mr. Phuong Hoang Kim – Director of the Project Management Unit, Director of DEESD – MOIT said: “The IEEP project plays an important role in supporting MOIT to achieve the goals of the National Energy Efficiency Programme, especially the goal of saving 5-7% of total energy consumption in the period of 2019 -2025.”
The IEEP project kick-off workshop gathers 130 delegates from MOIT, EU, UNIDO, government agencies, international organisations in Vietnam, banks, financial institutions, industrial associations, energy efficiency service and equipment providers, consulting units, certification and accreditation bodies, industrial enterprises, research institutes and universities, and NGOs in Vietnam.
The workshop is organised with the purpose of introducing the IEEP’s objectives, expected results, main components/activities, implementing timelines to the project partners, consulting units, international partners and organisations as well as enterprises in order to attract their attention and support, creating favorable conditions for project implementation.
