UNIDO advances energy management systems aligned with ISO 50001

In Hai Phong, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), recently held a training workshop titled “Developing and Operating an Energy Management System (EnMS) in line with ISO 50001 standards.”

This initiative is part of the EU-funded project “Accelerating Energy Efficiency in Large Industries through Energy Management Systems, System Optimization, and the Promotion and Adoption of Energy Efficiency in SMEs” (IEEP), which aims to enhance energy efficiency across industrial enterprises.

The two-day training brought together 65 participants, including managers and technical staff from the provinces of Hai Phong, Hai Duong, Quang Ninh, Ha Tinh, Nam Dinh, Ha Nam, Thai Binh. The workshop equipped them with the knowledge and skills to establish and operate EnMSs in key industrial sectors such as pulp and paper, food and rubber processing, beverages, textiles, chemicals and fertilizers, metallurgy and steel, plastics, cement, and seafood processing.

Delivered by a team of seasoned experts, the course was based on UNIDO’s Training Framework and covered essential topics such as energy system fundamentals, policy and planning, data collection and analysis, and implementation strategies.

Participants gained a comprehensive understanding of ISO 50001-compliant EnMSs and their value in boosting energy efficiency. They are now better prepared to advocate for resource allocation to integrate EnMSs into corporate investment and development plans, and to lead efforts in establishing, operating, or continuously improving these systems within their respective enterprises.

The training was well-received, with participants praising both the relevance of the content and the interactive methodology. Many expressed confidence in applying the insights gained to implement effective energy management systems in their organizations.
